How much do custom water polo suits and caps cost?
As of 2026, a team suit plus two caps commonly runs about $50–$75 per player for a budget set, $75–$115 mid-tier, and $115–$170+ for a fully custom sublimated set. These are planning ranges, not a quote. Competition suits are technical gear, so the suit itself drives the total more than decoration does.
Water polo budgets surprise first-time athletic directors because the uniform is really equipment: a chlorine-resistant suit, two regulation cap sets, and ear guards, often bought separately. With the girls’ winter season opening in many CIF sections and boys’ fall rosters already set, here are planning ranges, the levers that move a quote, and the line items programs tend to forget.
The short answer: typical ranges
Across the market, a custom water polo player set (a team suit plus a white and a dark cap) for a high school or club program commonly lands in these rough per-player ranges. Treat them as budgeting guardrails, not a quote — your real number depends on brand, suit construction, decoration, and quantity. Warm-ups, parkas, balls, and bags are not included.
| Tier | What you get | Rough per-player range* |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Quality non-branded team suit in team colors, plus a white and a dark cap with printed numbers | ~$50–75 |
| Mid | Branded team-program suit with decoration, plus two decorated cap sets | ~$75–115 |
| Premium | Fully custom sublimated suit designed as a matched set with custom caps and logo | ~$115–170+ |

What actually drives the price
1. The suit is the expensive piece
Because competition suits use technical fabric rather than a printed graphic, construction matters most. Chlorine-resistant fibers and reinforced or double-lined seams cost more but hold color and shape far longer than a generic swim fabric. Our water polo uniform buying guide covers what to look for.
2. Two cap sets, not one
NFHS requires two full sets of caps: one white and one dark contrasting color, with visible numbers and matching ear guards. Goalkeeper caps must be distinguishable from field-player caps. Caps are the cheaper, faster piece and a smart place to add a custom logo on a tight budget. NFHS updates rules periodically, so confirm the current season with your CIF section.
3. Brand
TYR runs a dedicated water polo suit and cap team program, and we also stock Speedo, Turbo, Arena, and KAP7 through our water polo catalog. Quality non-branded suits deliver a legal, durable uniform at a lower price and are common for JV squads. We quote both side by side.
4. Quantity & minimums
Many suppliers require a minimum per design, which is awkward for a small club roster. National Sports Apparel has no minimums.
The costs teams forget to budget
- Spare suits — suits see heavier wear than most uniforms and don’t last as many seasons; hold a few spares per size run.
- Goalkeeper caps — separate from field-player sets.
- Replacement caps and ear guards — the most common mid-season reorder.
- Balls and goals — often a separate line from the player set.
- Parkas and warm-ups — deck time between games adds up in cool weather.
- Spirit wear — a team store can turn parent and fan apparel into a fundraiser instead of a program expense.
How to lower the cost without looking cheap
- Spend on the suit, save on the print — a quality stock-color suit with decorated caps looks sharp and costs less than a fully custom design.
- Keep JV and varsity cap colors identical so caps can move between squads.
- Order inside the window — technical suit fabric takes longer than a printed jersey, and rushing is where costs climb.
- Ask for both a branded and a non-branded quote and compare value side by side.

Get a real number, not a guess
Ranges are for planning; a quote is for deciding. A team dealer prices your exact roster across brands and construction. We’ve outfitted California programs since 2009, quote branded and non-branded together, and have no order minimums.
