How much do custom cross country uniforms cost?
As of 2026, a cross country runner set (a singlet plus split-leg shorts) commonly runs about $35–$55 per runner for a budget set, $55–$85 mid-tier, and $85–$130+ for a fully custom sublimated set from a major running brand. These are planning ranges, not a quote. Because the garment itself is simple, decoration and brand drive the total.
Cross country rosters are often among the largest on campus, and the uniform is the lightest and simplest in the building — a singlet and a pair of shorts. That makes the budget look easy until you multiply it across 30 or 40 runners and add warm-ups. Here are planning ranges, the levers that move a quote, and the line items programs tend to forget.
The short answer: typical ranges
Across the market, a custom cross country runner set for a high school or club program commonly lands in these rough per-runner ranges. Treat them as budgeting guardrails, not a quote — your real number depends on brand, construction, decoration, and quantity. Spikes, racing flats, and bags are not included.
| Tier | What you get | Rough per-runner range* |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Stock non-branded singlet and split shorts with a screen-printed or heat-transferred school name | ~$35–55 |
| Mid | Branded singlet and shorts in team colors with decorated school name and numbers | ~$55–85 |
| Premium | Fully custom sublimated singlet and shorts from a major running brand, with a school-specific pattern | ~$85–130+ |

What actually drives the price
1. Singlet construction
A stock singlet that gets decorated is the budget path. A fully custom sublimated singlet lets you put an all-over school pattern across lightweight mesh, but it costs more and takes longer to produce. Our decoration comparison walks through when each method makes sense.
2. Brand
Our cross country catalog includes New Balance, Adidas, and Under Armour, with custom-template libraries built for distance apparel. Quality non-branded singlets deliver a clean, legal uniform at a lower price and are common for JV and freshman squads. We quote branded and non-branded side by side.
3. Roster size and depth
Large rosters spread setup costs over more garments, which helps per-runner pricing. But a roster that grows after the order is placed is where budgets slip: NFHS requires every runner on a team to match, so late additions mean reorders. National Sports Apparel has no minimums, so a small add-on order still gets attention.
4. Extras
Individual names, captain marks, and warm-up sets each add cost. A team name only is the lowest-cost option; warm-ups are often the largest optional add.
The costs teams forget to budget
- Full-roster matching — NFHS expects runners on a team to wear the same color and design, so budget the whole roster in one order, not in pieces over a few seasons.
- Warm-ups and team layers — cold early-morning meets make these some of the most-worn pieces.
- Small and extra-small sizes — distance rosters skew lean, so a size buffer in the small end avoids reorders; see our sizing hub.
- Track season carryover — the same singlet rules apply, so a design that works for both seasons can stretch a budget; see our track & field cost guide.
- Spirit wear — a team store can turn parent and fan apparel into a fundraiser instead of a program expense.
How to lower the cost without looking cheap
- Choose stock plus decoration if the calendar is tight — a clean, unified look beats mismatched hand-me-downs.
- Keep one design across varsity, JV, and freshmen so uniforms move between squads as the roster shifts.
- Make warm-ups optional — issue the race uniform and let families buy layers through a team store.
- Ask for both a branded and a non-branded quote and compare value side by side.

Get a real number, not a guess
Ranges are for planning; a quote is for deciding. A team dealer prices your exact roster across brands and decoration. We’ve outfitted California programs since 2009, quote branded and non-branded together, and have no order minimums. Most CIF sections open fall practice in mid-August, so the safe window to design a fully custom singlet is April–May; confirm your section’s calendar for the current season.
