A softball uniform has fewer moving parts than a baseball one on paper — jersey, pants, and a visor or cap — but the price still swings widely once you add varsity, JV, and freshman rosters and decide how custom the look should be. Many CIF sections open softball with first games in early-to-mid February, and a custom order runs 6 to 10 weeks from approved art to delivery, so October and November — right now — is the window that keeps you ahead of the winter production rush. This guide gives you planning ranges, the levers that move the number, and the line items first-time buyers forget.

The short answer: typical ranges

Across the market, a custom softball jersey, pants, and visor or cap set for a high school program commonly lands in these rough per-player ranges. Treat them as budgeting guardrails, not a quote — your real number depends on brand, decoration, and how many you order.

TierWhat you getRough per-player range*
BudgetQuality non-branded jersey and pants, screen-print or heat-transfer numbers~$70–100
MidStock branded jersey, piped pants, decorated visor or cap~$100–130
PremiumFully custom sublimated jersey with piping and color-blocking, matching pants and headwear~$130–160+

What actually drives the price

Four levers move a softball uniform quote more than anything else. Understand them and you steer the budget instead of reacting to it.

1. Jersey style

Softball programs choose among button-front, two-button placket, and pullover V-neck jerseys, in sleeved or sleeveless cuts. Pullover styles usually cost the least and suit JV and freshman rosters; full custom cut-and-sew styling with side panels costs more. Our softball uniform buying guide covers the style options and the NFHS numbering rules that shape a final design.

2. Decoration: screen print vs. sublimation

Screen print and heat-transfer numbers are the cheapest way to decorate a stock jersey. Sublimation puts unlimited color, gradients, and piping into the fabric without per-color charges, which is why most premium varsity sets use it — the tradeoffs are laid out in our sublimation vs. traditional decoration comparison.

3. Brand

Quality non-branded lines deliver a sharp, durable set for less. Rawlings, a diamond-specific brand, plus Adidas and Under Armour team lines sit higher and bring deeper template libraries. Because a dealer quotes several, you compare value instead of guessing.

4. Quantity & minimums

Bigger orders lower the per-unit price. Watch minimums, too: many suppliers require 8–20 pieces per design. National Sports Apparel has no minimums, so a small call-up reorder and a full varsity/JV/freshman program are both fine.

Pants and sliding gear wear faster than the jersey

Sliding, diving, and infield play wear through pant knees and seats long before a jersey shows age. Many programs budget a reserve of pants in common sizes rather than treating them as a one-time buy, and ask the dealer to price pants separately from the jersey so replacements are easy to plan.

The costs teams forget to budget

  • Visors or caps — quoted separately from the jersey-and-pants set; decoration and headwear style change the price.
  • Sliding shorts, undershirts & socks — often separate line items. Under NFHS rules, exposed undergarments must be black, white, gray, or a solid school color, so confirm the current-season rule with your section before ordering.
  • A pants reserve — see above.
  • Three-roster sizing — varsity, JV, and freshman fit profiles differ more than age alone predicts. Our sizing hub helps get the roster right the first time.
  • Spirit wear — a team store can turn fan apparel into a fundraiser instead of a program expense.

How to lower the cost without looking cheap

  • Mix tiers by squad — varsity in a premium sublimated set, JV and freshman in decorated stock jerseys from the same color family.
  • Order in October–November to clear the winter production rush ahead of a February opener.
  • Bundle jerseys, pants, headwear, and spirit wear into one order instead of several purchase orders.
  • Ask for both a branded and a non-branded quote and compare value side by side.

Get a real number, not a guess

Ranges are for planning; a quote is for deciding. A team dealer prices your exact roster across brands and decoration methods so you see real options before the season opens. We've outfitted California programs since 2009, quote branded and non-branded together, and have no order minimums — so you can see what your program costs before you commit a dollar.
